How to Send Greeting Cards Directly from Claude (or ChatGPT, or Cursor)

Most people still think of greeting cards as something you buy, write, and mail. But if you’re running an AI assistant in 2026 — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor — you can now create and send cards with a single prompt, thanks to the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Greetu.io runs a free MCP server that exposes its entire card engine to any MCP-compatible client. That means your AI assistant can:
  • Create personalized cards with AI-written messages
  • Schedule cards for future delivery (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays)
  • Read replies and reactions recipients leave on cards
  • Reply to cards on your behalf
Here’s how to set it up in under 10 minutes.

What You’ll Need

  1. A Greetu API key (starts with grtu_...)
  2. An MCP-compatible client — Claude Desktop, Claude in the browser, ChatGPT, Cursor, or VS Code
  3. Roughly 5 minutes of copy-paste

Step 1: Add the Greetu MCP Server to Your Client

The server lives at a single endpoint: https://greetu.io/api/mcp, using JSON-RPC 2.0 with your API key in the X-API-Key header.
Claude Desktop — edit your config file (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on macOS, %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json on Windows):

JSON

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "greetu": {
      "url": "https://greetu.io/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "X-API-Key": "grtu_xxxxxxxx"
      }
    }
  }
}
Cursor — add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

JSON

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "greetu": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://greetu.io/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "X-API-Key": "grtu_xxxxxxxx"
      }
    }
  }
}
VS Code — add to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace:

JSON

{
  "servers": {
    "greetu": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://greetu.io/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "X-API-Key": "grtu_xxxxxxxx"
      }
    }
  }
}
Restart your client, and the Greetu tools should appear.

Step 2: Explore the Tools

Your assistant now has access to six tools:

Table

ToolWhat it doesCredits
greetu.create_cardCreate a card with an AI-written or custom message5
greetu.schedule_cardSchedule a card to unlock at a future date/time5
greetu.list_cardsList recently created cards1
greetu.get_repliesFetch text replies left on a card1
greetu.get_reactionsFetch emoji reactions on a card1
greetu.reply_to_cardSend a reply to a card3

Step 3: Send Your First Card

Just ask. In plain language:
“Create a birthday card for Sarah from me, let AI write the message.”
Your assistant calls greetu.create_card with the right arguments:

JSON

{
  "name": "greetu.create_card",
  "arguments": {
    "recipient_name": "Sarah",
    "occasion": "birthday",
    "use_ai_message": true
  }
}
You can also specify a custom message, a visual theme, a locked_until date for time-capsule surprises, or a Base64 voice_message — up to 5 seconds of audio recorded right into the card.

Step 4: Schedule at Scale

The killer feature for businesses is greetu.schedule_card. Instead of remembering birthdays, tell your assistant:
“Schedule anniversary cards for everyone in this CSV, on their actual anniversary dates.”
Each card unlocks automatically at the scheduled time, and recipients get a shareable card URL — with read receipts and reactions flowing back to you.

Prefer Raw Code? Call It Directly

The MCP endpoint is just JSON-RPC over HTTP, so you can skip the AI client entirely:

Python

import requests

API_KEY = "grtu_xxxxxxxx"
URL = "https://greetu.io/api/mcp"

def mcp_call(method, params=None):
    r = requests.post(URL, headers={
        "Content-Type": "application/json",
        "X-API-Key": API_KEY,
    }, json={
        "jsonrpc": "2.0",
        "id": 1,
        "method": method,
        "params": params or {},
    })
    return r.json()

# Create a card
result = mcp_call("tools/call", {
    "name": "greetu.create_card",
    "arguments": {
        "recipient_name": "Sarah",
        "occasion": "birthday",
        "use_ai_message": True,
    }
})
print(result)

Why This Matters

Greeting cards sit at an odd intersection: they’re one of the highest-impact gestures a business can make (retention, reviews, referrals), but they’ve always been manual. MCP removes the manual part. Your assistant handles the logistics — you keep the judgment.
The first card is free. The look on their face isn’t measurable, but the replies and reactions you’ll read via greetu.get_replies come pretty close.
